About trek

Opened In March 1992 to the outside world, the last forbidden' kingdom of Mustang has lured hundreds of  tourists. Those who live in Upper Mustang region are called Bhotias and those who are from Lo are called Lobas. The Upper Mustang trek is an exotic exploration to  untouched and ancient Buddhist villages, rare medieval Buddhist arts, culture and the unique beauty of the Himalayan desert. The medieval settlement of Lo Manthang lies in the remote Himalayan desert behind the Himalayas. Upper Mustang is a land covering about 2600 sq km in area where 6000 people live in colorful life & harmony . Recently an international team of explorers have discovered a cave that needs technical climbing to observe. Beautiful Buddhist murals, and historical objects are discovered. They celebrate several festivals but Tiji festival is the biggest. Tiji comes from the words "ten che"  & it means "the hope of Buddha Dharma prevailing in all worlds" and is a spring renewal festival that also celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

The Tiji festival is a three-day ritual activity known as "The chasing of the Demons". Tiji tells the story of a deity named Dorje Jono who must battle against his demon father to save the Kingdom of Mustang from destruction & ending. The demon father was destroying Mustang by creating a water shortage Dorje Jono finally defeated the demon and banishes him from the land.
